PHOTOS: Computer company offers kids a new way to learn, read music

Learning to read and play music has never been more fun.

That’s because historical musicians like Beethoven and Mozart are now teaching the kids in the Lower Sackville Boys & Girls Club how to play the piano.

Through a new computer program called MusIQ HomeSchool, which was launched at the B&G Club on March 28, children are learning to play and read music, as well as improvise and compose songs on a weekly basis.

‘The music will live on forever’: Fans say farewell to rock icon Chuck Berry

Family, friends and fans paid their final respects to the rock ‘n’ roll legend Chuck Berry on Sunday, celebrating the life and career of a man who inspired countless guitarists and bands in the only way possible: with music.

The celebration began with a public viewing at The Pageant, a music club in Berry’s hometown of St. Louis, Mo., where he often played. Hundreds of fans filed past Berry, whose beloved cherry-red Gibson guitar was bolted to the inside of his coffin’s lid. This weekend marks the 10th anniversary of Record Store Day, but its success isn’t a phoenix-rising-from-the-ashes story.

At least, Record Store Day’s co-founder Michael Kurtz, who helps organize the independent record stores’ bi-annual celebration’s special album and single releases, doesn’t remember it that way. According to him, a decade ago independent record stores were not thrown into panic as giant music retailers—Tower, Virgin Megastore, and HMV—went the way of the Dodo, and the iPod rose as the supposed future of music “consumption.”
