Notable new music venues — if you build it they will come

• Lana’s Lounge

This intimate King and University uptown Waterloo space has always been known for live music. In its day, it was the Raintree Café presenting some great local artists. In 2018, that tradition was reborn through the vision of owners Shan Bricker and Marissa Mansz. Now Lana’s has become a regular place for live music events from weekly blues jams to songwriter series and Saturday matinees in many genres of music. Lana’s is a few months away from its first anniversary. It is one success story for new live music venues in Waterloo Region. (220 King St. N., Waterloo)

• The Rich Uncle Tavern — The Study

The Study is a cool new live-music haunt in downtown Kitchener and features many local singer-songwriters on various nights during the week. Owner Kyle Deep (formerly of the Waterloo café, Symposium) likes to support the local music scene and opened The Study to accommodate this passion. One of the most popular nights is Sunday’s open mike night from 7 to 9 p.m. with host/musician Jesse Webber. (45 King St. W., Kitchener)

• The Falls Road On Victoria Irish Pub

Falls Road is an interesting name for an Irish Pub as The Falls Road in Belfast is known for its vivid murals depicting the years of political, religious, social unrest that began in the late ’60s during “The Troubles.” This authentic pub nestled at Victoria and Lancaster features proper Irish repast and libation from Guinness to black pudding, plus live music Friday, Saturdays, and Sundays. I can see the Irish Real Life Festival doing something here for sure. Double slainte! (296 Victoria St N., Kitchener)
